Spellings

In Year 2 your children will be given a list of spellings every half term, with 10 different words each week.  Your child will get a copy of each week's spellings for them to learn at their own pace. In school, your child has been provided with a spelling book and will practice at least 3 times a week.  We also have a spelling lesson on Tuesday to go through the words and the different ways we can learn them.

The more your child practices, the better!  Please help them to practice at home.  In school we use the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' method.  Here are some other methods you could use:

Remember to make it fun - you could play games like 'hangman' or make some mistakes for your child to be the teacher and correct them.

Your child can also practise on the Spelling Shed website, where their own individual spellings can be accessed, with lots of practise games as well!  https://www.spellingshed.com/

The children will be assessed on their spellings every Friday.

Please find below a copy of the common exception words for Year 1 and Year 2. Common exception words have unusual spellings and therefore need to be learned.
