Reading

Year 5 children are expected to read for at least 20 minutes every night, at least once during the weekend (Friday to Sunday) and sometime during holiday periods. In school, children have both a banded book and library book. Currently, children are unable to take their banded reading books home.

It is vital for children to be exposed to a range of texts- so use whatever you have to hand, for example a take away menu, TV guide or magazine. Children change their books as and when they need to. Although teachers will remind them, it is important that Year 5 children are taking more responsibility for choosing and changing their own books. Usually, children are given a reading record to show that they have read. If they can, the should upload what they have read at home onto Class Dojo or complete a book review on the Year 5/6 blog. Support from home is vital and we would ask that you to try to read with your child as often as possible.

If you require any further support or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact school.
