Dear Parents and Carers
The children and their teachers have been working extremely hard since they returned from Lockdown-2 back in March and they are currently embarking on a period of assessment to enable us to give you a much clearer idea of where they are up to academically. We have left these assessments as long as possible to ensure that children have had a really good chance to catch-up with their learning where needed.
During the last few months and for at least the remainder of this school year, they have also had to endure highly restrictive Covid-19 measures, preventing them from mixing wider than their bubbles. All of these factors have affected the well-being of everyone in school and so, I have been thinking very hard about what we can do to remedy that, within the safety parameters set out by the Government in their most recent guidance for schools. So, here it is…
Silver Springs Sports’ and Fitness Week
28th June – 2nd July 2021
We will all be taking part in:
Tony’s Multi-Sport Challenges
Welly Walks or Smiler Milers
Mass Dance / Keep Fit Sessions
Commando Joe Assault Course
During this week the children will be able to wear their trainers and sportswear every day for the whole week! (Please NO football team tops – to avoid unnecessary arguments!) Mrs McHugh and Tony have been helping me to arrange an exciting week of outdoor events for the children and we are so pleased that some of our local sports clubs and some of the school staff have also agreed to join in and deliver taster sessions for some classes.
Some things will feature daily:
Mrs Mason’s Daily Sports Quiz
Daily Yoga and Mindfulness
Daily Sports Inspiration
Daily Personal Challenge Bingo Cards
Some year groups will have the chance to take part taster sessions, including:
Manchester United Foundation Coaches & Great Academy Ashton Sports Leaders – Football Skills
Tameside Active Coach Tri-Golf
Big Local Big Lake Pedalo Races (We will get permissions from parents for this!!)
Priory Tennis Club Coach – Tennis Tasters
Tour de Silver Springs Cycle Races with Simon Wilson our Cycling Coach
Reception Cycle Demonstration
Cycling Taster Sessions for other year groups
And Mr Banham has promised a week of Healthy-Eating Menus with a sporting theme too!
All of our Sports Week fun and games will culminate in traditional “SPORTS’ DAY” races in our class and year group bubbles on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th July.
We had hoped to be able to be able to invite parents along to spectate in the traditional way for Sports Day, but sadly that will not now be possible. But we will make sure that we post lots and lots of photos and videos of the events on Class Dojo and Seesaw. Let’s hope that next year we will be back to normal and everyone can join in the fun! One thing that we can include parents on is our welly-walks, we will let the parents for those classes taking part know more details next week!
Until then, please continue to keep safe and take care of yourselves and your families.
