Dear Parents and Carers
Harvest Time is quickly approaching and once again at Silver Springs Academy we are looking forward to celebrating this important time of year. However, this year will be slightly different as Year 4 will still be holding a special Harvest Assembly on Friday 16th October 2020 but it will be virtually.
Every year we are overwhelmed by the generous donations that we receive from our families to help others in the community and I am sure that this year will be no exception! We would like each child to bring a food donation on or before Friday 16th October 2020. As usual this can be tinned or dried food, such as soup, tinned veg., biscuits, rice, and pasta etc. Please don’t be tempted to send any fresh fruit or veg. as this is not likely to last very long. Please DO NOT bring in a bag.
All food brought into school will be donated to our local Foodbank. The Tameside East foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities, as well as across the UK.
The Foodbank Network was founded in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank based in Salisbury. Since then The Trussell Trust has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in a wide range of towns and cities.
Between April 2019 and March 2020, food banks in our network provided a record 1.9 million food supplies to people in crisis, a 18% increase on the previous year.
