What a busy week it has been and it's only Thursday!
A huge thank you to my army of home-educators! Your commitment to keeping your children engaged and learning has been so admirable. I have been so impressed by all the contributions that I have seen in children's Classdojo Portfolios.
I am also so very grateful to all my teaching staff for the extraordinary effort that they have made to ensure that you have all the support that you need at home. I have really enjoyed seeing their creativity in coming up with more and more tasks as well as all the links they have posted to some fantastic resources online. It is wonderful to see how many authors and education professionals are opening up their resources for families free of charge during this crisis.
As we approach what would have been the Easter Holidays, I want to ensure that my staff have some down time to spend with their own families at home, after what has been a uniquely challenging term. So, over the next two weeks, the teachers will not be setting any new work tasks, but instead I have asked them to set some Easter Holiday Family Fun Challenges that you can dip into if you would like to. We do not want you to feel cut off from our support though, so I have asked teachers to check for messages from parents once per week day. If you do encounter a problem, please drop them a line and they will pick it up at some time through the day. I will also be available through Dojo, if you think I can help.
The school will remain open for the children of critical workers for the next two weeks including Good Friday and Easter Monday, so if you have an urgent concern or question, please ring the Office, someone will be there to take calls between 9 am and 2 pm each day on 0161 338 2475.
If I am alerted by the Department for Education of any significant changes to Government Guidance, I will update you via Classdojo. We will also continue to post helpful links and advice on the school website and the Facebook page. My thanks go to our office staff for keeping these up to date!
Means-tested Free School Meals
The Government have announced their National Free School Meals Voucher Scheme, which will roll out from 20th April onwards. If you are eligible, you will have received a text message asking you to update your email address. If you did not receive this text, unfortunately you are not currently eligible for this scheme. Once we have received details, we will forward this information to parents. At Silver Springs, we recognise that this is a difficult time financially for all families, so if you are experiencing difficulties, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will try to signpost you to the best source of help. Today we were also sad to hear that the Foodbank will be closing its doors temporarily as they are unable to meet demands at the present time.
Finally, I want to share with you a link to a short clip from James Corden's #Homefest, that aired earlier this week. His words are so poignant at this time and I think he sums up very eloquently how this lockdown is affecting everyone. Please watch to the end where he shares a song from the musical Dear Evan Hansen, the lyrics for which are very apt at this time. I hope that you enjoy it and that is resonates with you as much as it did with me when I watched it. #youwillbefound
It continues to be my absolute pleasure to serve as your headteacher.
