Olympic Gymnast Beth Tweddle springs into School!

We were all very excited to welcome a special visitor to Silver Springs on Wednesday...

Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle MBE met some of our children to raise the profile of gymnastics and inspire more young people to take up sport!

Beth, who won bronze at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, visited us to champion the sport as part of her Total Gymnastics Academy which provides national curriculum classes during PE lessons.

In 2010, Beth was awarded a Queen’s Honour for her success, commitment and dedication to her sport which has been the driving force behind her new academy and schools programme to give every child the opportunity to try gymnastics.

Beth Tweddle MBE said: “I’m passionate about giving every child the opportunity to have a go at gymnastics and through curriculum this is achievable. We have worked with over 100 schools with the school programme and have supported a number of the schools games competitions. It is great to see children really enjoying and engaging with gymnastics at a young age in school.”

Deborah Mason, Principal at Silver Springs Academy said: “This is such a fantastic opportunity for the children and they were so excited to meet Beth and find out more about her sporting success.

“Sport can benefit children in many aspects of their lives and we’re interested to find out more about Beth’s academy and how we can create more opportunities at the school for our young people.”
